Raj Kapoor is known as one of the greatest actors of the Bollywood Hindi cinema who have won several accolades and his career spanned over five decades in the film industry.


Raj Kapoor was born to the famous actor Prithviraj Kapoor at Kapoor Haveli in Peshawar (now in Pakistan) and had two brothers who were also renown Bollywood actors, Shashi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor

Raj Kapoor's career spans over five decades and he appeared in his first Bollywood movie 'Inquilab' at the age of 10 years in 1935. Got a break with the movie Neel Kamal in 1947 opposite Mahudbala.

In 1948, Raj Kapoor established his own studio R.K. Films when he was just 24 years old and became the youngest film director by releasing directorial debut movie 'Aag' in which Raj Kapoor starred himself along with Nargis, Kamini Kaushal, and Premnath.

Under Raj Kapoor movie banner, he has produced several hit movies and has won several awards which included 3 National Film Awards and 11 Filmfare Awards. Even the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award was named after his contributions to the film industry.

In 1971, Raj Kapoor was honored with Padma Bhushan for his contribution to the arts and received Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1987.

Raj Kapoor is really the 'showman of the millennium' and also called by other names like 'The Clark Gable' of the Indian film industry. Sometimes also referred to as the Charlie Chaplin of Indian Cinema as his acting showed Charlie Chaplin's influence and Kapoor always remained cheerful and honest.

In the later years, Raj Kapoor suffered from chronic asthma and in 1988 at the age of 63 years, Raj Kapoor died of the complications and breathing problems. 

Really Raj Kapoor was a true legend of which the legacy is still remembered by millions.
