Punjabis are known to be the soul of parties. Bhangra is a dance anybody, whether trained or not, can be a part of. Just raise your hands, shake and jump around on the beats of Dhol, and Ho Gaya Bhangra!
Bollywood has always been fascinated by the beat tracks in Punjabi music industry. And why not, if they are anything as trendy and foot-tapping, soulful and romantic as some of them below, B-Town has the right to fall in love and create their renditions. And Punjabis will proudly take the due credits.
BAARI BARSI (Band Baaja Baaraat):
The song may have been used in the 2012 movie, but it has been every Punjabi baaraat's go-to song since ages. A track to get all the family members on the dance floor, Baari Barsi is originally a folk Punjabi form called 'Boli'. Watch the original here:
2. ANGREJI BEAT (Cocktail)
Sung by Gippy Grewal and Yo Yo Honey Singh, the track was picturised on the beautiful Deepika Padukone in her career-high Cocktail. The original track? Well, it was filmed on the singers themselves and was a fun watch. Look below:
3. SOCH NA SAKE (Airlift)
This song in Airlift, sung by Arijit Singh and Tulsi Kumar became nation's romantic anthem but have you seen the original version? 'Soch' is originally sung by Harry Sandhu and we bet, the video will leave you teary-eyed. It is beautiful and emotional and probably the best proof that Mr. Sandhu is here to stay.
4. IKK KUDI (Udta Punjab)
Actually a poem by Punjabi poet Shiv Kumar Batalvi, this song has many renditions. Sung by Shahid Mallya in Udta Punjab, even the movie track has three versions. The beautiful words have been crooned by Diljit Dosanjh and Alia Bhatt as well. Watch the Shahid Mallya version here.
5. KALA CHASHMA (Baar Baar Dekho)
This was one trendy 90s song, actually sung by Amar Arshi. We have the original version here for you. But complete with Katrina's jhumke-thumke in Baar Baar Dekho, well the Filmy version is our favourite. What's your take? Watch and compare.
6. DIN SHAGNA DA (Phillauri)
Another boli, this folk song has been around since long. Add to it the beauty and innocence of Anushka Sharma, and it has got a new lease of life. Now, the weddings are absolutely incomplete without Din Shagna Da. And why not? Jasleen Royal's voice and that guitar! Ufffff!
7. MAIN TERA BOYFRIEND (Raabta)
J Star's Na Na Na Na was used in Raabta. The film could not do upto the expectations but the song, filmed on Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon, has some catchy moves.
But we like the original better.
8. SUIT SUIT (Hindi Medium)
The testimony of Guru Randhawa's absolutely charming voice. Drool girls, drool!
Filmy version was equally good. Add to it, the Pakistani beauty Saba Qamar. She can make the whole world stare, indeed.
9. ISHQ TADPAAVE (Hindi Medium)
If you're a 90s kid and haven't danced on Sukhbir's Ishq Tadpave, syncing with Oh Ho Ho Ho on the dance floor, well we don't know you anymore. This trendy song was revamped for Hindi Medium and we were on the dance floor, yet again.
10. DIL CHORI (Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety)
Hans Raj Hans had taken the industry by storm with his soulful voice. Dil Chori Dada Ho Gaya was what made him popular amongst the Hindi-speaking population as well.
Now Yo Yo Honey Singh has re-arranged the track for today's release SKTKS and this has become the party anthem. Watch both the versions here:
