The Chandigarh International Airport is about to be upgraded. The airport will be shut down from all operations for 15 days to undergo a runway resurfacing work by the Indian Airforce. In a leading daily 'The Tribune', the PRO, Deepesh Joshi of Chandigarh International Airport said, “Due to runway resurfacing work by the Indian Air Force (IAF), the runway shall remain closed from February 12 to 26, 2018. During this period, no civil and military flight will operate from Chandigarh.” [caption id="attachment_25165" align="alignnone" width="660"] Source[/caption] The CEO of the Chandigarh International Airport, Suneel Dutt, believes that the end result of the upgraded runway will be a gift for the region. It will facilitate wide-bodied aircraft and will help the passengers of five adjoining states. This is definitely good news. The runway of the airport will be upgraded from 9000 feet in length to 10,400 feet. The increase of the runway will hopefully attract several airline operators to operate flights from Chandigarh to countries beyond 5000 KM. The Chandigarh International Airport has begun international flights to Dubai and Sharjah in December this year. The flight to Bangkok is scheduled to commence today, the 11th of December. Meanwhile, everyone is expected to plan their trips accordingly. At present, the runway remains closed from 4 pm to 5 am from Monday to Saturday. All Sunday flights have been canceled.
