In a spectacular display of skill and determination, the Indian women’s hockey team emerged victorious at the Asian Champions Trophy, defeating reigning champions Japan 4-0 in the final held at Ranchi. The enthusiastic crowd of 10,000 witnessed a thrilling match as local talent Sangita Kumari (17th min), Neha Goyal (46th), Lalremsiami (57th), and Vandana Katariya (60th) scored, securing India’s second continental crown, following their 2016 triumph in Singapore.

From the outset, the hosts showcased aggressive gameplay, breaking the deadlock when Sangita Kumari capitalized on a brilliant setup by Neha Goyal. Despite Japan’s attempts to equalize, India’s formidable defense, led by skipper Savita Punia, thwarted all challenges. Savita’s exceptional goalkeeping skills, including saving three penalty corners and a crucial penalty stroke, ensured India’s victory.

The Indian women’s hockey team’s stellar performance has not only brought pride to the nation but also highlighted their prowess on the international stage.
