Aligarh Nagar Nigam Passes Resolution to Rename City as ‘Harigarh’

The Aligarh Nagar Nigam, in a significant move, has passed a resolution seeking a change in the city’s name to ‘Harigarh.’ The resolution, initiated by BJP Corporator Sanjay Pandit, was overwhelmingly supported and approved during the recent municipal meeting.

This resolution marks a momentous development in the city’s history, as it mirrors the ongoing efforts across Uttar Pradesh to rechristen places under the leadership of the Yogi Adityanath-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. Notable name changes include Allahabad to Prayagraj and Faizabad to Ayodhya.

Aligarh, a city with a rich historical heritage and a lineage of various names throughout the centuries, now seeks to embrace ‘Harigarh’ as its new identity.

The resolution will be forwarded to the Uttar Pradesh government for consideration, as per established procedures. In the past, similar attempts to recognize ‘Harigarh’ as the city’s original name have been made, emphasizing its deep-rooted historical significance.
