  • PublishedDecember 2, 2023

As cyclone ‘Michaung’ intensifies in the Bay of Bengal, the northern coast of Tamil Nadu and the southern coast of Andhra Pradesh brace for heightened rainfall and winds expected from December 3. Forecasted to cross these coasts by December 4 evening, the cyclone, currently a depression, is set to escalate into a cyclonic storm, as confirmed by Sunanda, Managing Director of Visakhapatnam Cyclone Warning Centre.

Anticipating this development, the National Crisis Management Committee, led by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, reviewed preparedness measures of state governments, central ministries, and departments. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 18 teams to Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Puducherry, with 10 additional teams on standby.

Coast Guard, Army, Navy rescue and relief teams, accompanied by ships and aircraft, remain on alert. Residents are urged to stay updated on official advisories and take necessary precautions.
