  • PublishedDecember 6, 2023

A recent study conducted by Stanford University sheds light on the significant advantages of a plant-based diet in enhancing heart health. Published in the JAMA Network Open journal, the study compared the impact of a vegan, devoid-of-animal-products diet to an omnivorous diet rich in animal and plant-based foods.

Over an eight-week period, involving 22 pairs of identical twin adults, the research scrutinized cardiovascular health markers such as cholesterol, sugar levels, insulin, and body weight. Results showcased compelling differences, highlighting that individuals adhering to the vegan diet experienced substantial weight loss, reduced LDL cholesterol levels, and lower insulin levels compared to their counterparts on an omnivorous diet.

“This trial underscores the protective cardiometabolic advantages of a healthy plant-based diet,” stated the study’s authors. These findings align with prior research, reinforcing the benefits of plant-based diets for cardiovascular well-being.
