The commemorative plaque, while honoring Shakira’s multifaceted talents, spotlighted a minor error in the sculptor’s name, garnering online attention. Nevertheless, the heartfelt dedication remains intact, celebrating Shakira’s birthplace, her artistry that transcends borders, and her advocacy for children and humanity.
Crafted by artist Yino Marques in collaboration with students and alumni of the District School of Arts, the sculpture elegantly embodies Shakira’s essence, with her outstretched arms symbolizing transcendence and the end of her skirt reflecting the waves of the sea and river.
