Trinamool Congress Announces Independent Participation in Lok Sabha Polls, INDIA Alliance Affirms Unity
  • PublishedJanuary 24, 2024

In a significant development, Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee declared today that her party will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls independently in West Bengal. The decision follows unsuccessful seat-sharing negotiations with the Congress, leading to speculation about potential rifts within the INDIA alliance.

Shiv Sena (UBT) sources indicated that they had foreseen Mamata Banerjee’s move, stating, “The development was expected. There was very little scope of Mamata going with Congress.” However, INDIA allies dismissed notions of a rift, with NCP working president Supriya Sule affirming, “The alliance is united, and we will all fight together. There will be no loss to the alliance.”

Delhi Minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj acknowledged the challenges of seat-sharing but stressed the commitment of both Mamata Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi to the success of the INDIA bloc. RJD MP Manoj Jha urged patience, suggesting that any conflict would be resolved within the alliance.

In response to Mamata Banerjee’s announcement, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh emphasized the party’s view that TMC is a “pillar” of the opposition bloc. He expressed hope for fruitful talks, asserting that the INDIA alliance will fight unitedly in Bengal with the primary goal of defeating the BJP nationally and in the state.

The Congress aims for amicable resolutions to any differences, emphasizing the collective mission of the INDIA alliance against the BJP.
