Gurdwara Standoff in Punjab Over Bhindranwale Poster Ends Peacefully: Car Vandalized, Minor Injuries Reported

Tensions simmered at a gurdwara in Pahuwind village, Tarn Taran, on Sunday, culminating in the vandalism of the gurdwara management committee president’s car and minor injuries to a police officer and committee members. The incident stemmed from the removal of a poster depicting slain Sikh separatist leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

A video showing the removal of a tent bearing the Bhindranwale poster from near the gurdwara’s shoe cleaning service sparked outrage among Sikh radicals. Arriving at the complex, the group demanded action against the management and vandalized the committee president’s car. Police intervened, ensuring the committee president’s safety, and mediated the situation.

“The matter has been amicably resolved,” confirmed Deputy Superintendent of Police Preet Inder Singh. “There is no further tension at the gurdwara.”

While the incident highlights continued sensitivities surrounding Bhindranwale, the swift resolution underscores efforts to maintain peace and ensure the safety of devotees.
