Row Over Farmer Leader’s Comment on PM Modi’s Graph Amid Ongoing Protests
  • PublishedFebruary 15, 2024

The farmers’ protest in Punjab entered its third day, with Haryana police preventing protesters from entering Haryana. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar criticized the farmers, stating that their method, resembling an army’s movement, was questionable. Khattar urged the farmers to use public transport like trains and buses instead of tractors, emphasizing that tractors are for agricultural use.

A controversy erupted when a video surfaced featuring farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal allegedly saying, “PM Modi’s graph has shot up due to Ram Mandir. We have to bring down the graph.” This statement sparked a reaction from Khattar, who dismissed it as a political statement. Khattar questioned whether people would stop supporting PM Modi due to the protest, and he emphasized the need to avoid disruptions in law and order.

Meanwhile, the Haryana police resisted farmers at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders, using tear gas shells to disperse them. The ongoing protests have led to increased vigilance by Delhi police at its borders. In an attempt to address the farmers’ demands, three Union ministers are scheduled to hold a meeting with protesters in Chandigarh, marking the third round of discussions. The farmers’ agitation continues to raise concerns about the methods used and their impact on public order.
