In a tragic incident in Jharkhand’s Jamtara district, at least two individuals were killed when a train ran over them on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred at Kalajharia railway station, where some passengers alighted from a train on the wrong side and were subsequently struck by another local train. The victims died on the spot.

The Eastern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Kaushik Mitra, informed that a three-member Joint Accident Committee (JAG) has been constituted to investigate the matter. Authorities are currently conducting a search operation to ascertain the exact number of casualties.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on the mishap, stating, “Pained by the mishap in Jamtara, Jharkhand. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee extended her sympathies and urged railway authorities to overhaul systems to prevent such incidents. She emphasized the need for an investigation into the safety lapses leading to the accident.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren expressed sadness and conveyed wishes for the swift recovery of those injured. The administration is actively engaged in relief and rescue efforts at the accident site.

The incident has prompted calls for an impartial investigation, with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge urging the Railway Ministry to take responsibility and hold those accountable for safety lapses. The exact circumstances leading to the tragedy are under investigation, and additional details are expected to emerge as the probe progresses.
