Delhi’s Directorate of Vigilance Terminates Services of Arvind Kejriwal’s Personal Secretary
  • PublishedApril 11, 2024

In a recent development, Delhi’s Directorate of Vigilance has terminated the services of Bibhav Kumar, the personal secretary of jailed chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. Special Secretary, Vigilance, YVVJ Rajshekhar passed the order for his removal, citing a 2007 case against him.

According to the order, a government servant named Mahesh Pal had accused Bibhav Kumar of obstructing him from discharging his duty and abusing him. The FIR filed in 2007 against Kumar and others alleged obstruction of a public servant from performing his duties and verbal abuse.

The termination order states that Bibhav Kumar’s trial is ongoing, and he is not cleared from the angle of vigilance. Moreover, it emphasizes the importance of verifying the character and antecedents of personal staff of ministers before engaging non-government officials.

This decision comes amid Bibhav Kumar being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) earlier this week in connection with a money laundering probe related to the Delhi excise policy case. The ED has arrested Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the same case, alleging that he misused his position to commit money laundering offenses for the benefit of his party.

Kejriwal has challenged his arrest in the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court upheld the Enforcement Directorate’s action. As legal proceedings continue, this development underscores the ongoing scrutiny surrounding individuals associated with the case.
