PM Modi Accuses Opposition of Undermining Democracy and Constitution
  • PublishedApril 26, 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a rally in Bihar’s Araria, accused the RJD and Congress of neglecting the Constitution and democracy, alleging rampant booth capturing during their rule. He claimed the Opposition’s hostility towards Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) stemmed from the machines empowering honest voters. Modi welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict upholding the EVM-VVPAT system, thwarting any return to paper ballots.

Furthermore, Modi accused the Congress of scheming to extend OBC reservation to Bihar’s Muslims, echoing their tactics in Karnataka. He asserted that such a move would contravene Ambedkar’s stance against religion-based reservations. The BJP leader’s remarks come amidst the Election Commission’s notice to party president JP Nadda over Modi’s comments regarding the Congress’s alleged intention to distribute funds among large families.

In response to petitions seeking EVM-VVPAT cross-verification, the Supreme Court emphasized fostering trust and harmony among democratic institutions, dismissing the appeals. Modi’s allegations against the Opposition underscore escalating political tensions ahead of crucial elections.
