Blazing Retaliation: India Strikes Back After Pahalgam Carnage
  • PublishedApril 24, 2025

In a decisive response to one of the deadliest terror attacks in recent years, India has launched a series of strong diplomatic and strategic countermeasures following the massacre of 26 civilians—mostly tourists—in a brutal strike in South Kashmir’s Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam. The April 22 attack, reminiscent of the 2019 Pulwama tragedy, has reignited national outrage and prompted swift government action.

A special forces para commando was killed and two others injured in a follow-up encounter in Udhampur’s Dudu-Basantgarh area, as security forces continued operations based on intel about terrorist movement. The operation comes just days after the attack, believed to involve three Pakistani and two Kashmiri militants.

India’s Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has suspended the 1960 Indus Water Treaty and expelled Pakistani military officials from New Delhi. The Attari land border has been shut, and diplomatic staff are being slashed on both sides. The SAARC visa exemption for Pakistani nationals is now void; those already in India must leave within 48 hours.

Public grief has turned into fury, with candlelight marches and nationwide tributes to the victims. Meanwhile, world leaders—including the UK and Canada—have condemned the violence, and ex-Pentagon officials have likened the attack to Hamas’ October 7 assault on Israel. As the nation mourns, India has made it clear: this attack will not go unanswered.
