Congress Issues Directive on Pahalgam Remarks

The Congress party has distanced itself from controversial remarks made by some of its leaders regarding the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 people. The party leadership, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, has expressed displeasure over statements made by several leaders that deviated from the party’s official stance.
In a directive issued on Monday, Congress leadership instructed all party members to refrain from making public statements that do not align with the party’s established position on the attack. The directive comes after several controversial comments sparked a backlash, with critics questioning the party’s unity and coherence on the issue.
During an all-party meeting convened shortly after the attack, Congress had expressed full support for the action taken by the central government in response to the tragedy. Clarifying the party’s position, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh emphasized in a post on X that only the views expressed by Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and authorized AICC office-bearers should be considered the official stand of the party.
Ramesh further reiterated, “Any statements made by individual Congress leaders are personal and do not reflect the party’s position. The party’s official stance is solely represented by the CWC resolution and the views of authorized office-bearers.”
