Imran Khan Warns of ‘Nuclear Flashpoint’ After Pahalgam Attack, Slams Modi Government

In a fiery statement from jail, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan responded to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, calling it “deeply disturbing” while warning that the region remains a “nuclear flashpoint.” Offering condolences to the victims, Khan accused India of jumping to blame Pakistan without evidence, likening it to the 2019 Pulwama incident.
Khan reiterated that Pakistan prioritizes peace, but cautioned against mistaking that for weakness. “We have the capabilities to give a befitting response to any Indian misadventure,” he said, referencing the February 2019 escalation between the two nations. He claimed India’s actions in Kashmir—especially after the abrogation of Article 370—have only intensified unrest, fueling demands for self-determination.
Khan also took aim at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of spreading RSS-driven hostility and uniting Pakistan in resistance. He further criticized Pakistan’s current leadership, alleging Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari are too compromised by foreign financial interests to stand up to India.
In parallel, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar claimed Islamabad has “credible intelligence” that India is planning a military strike within 36 hours, using the Pahalgam attack as a pretext. He warned that “any act of aggression will be met with a decisive response.”
As tensions spike, India has signaled a stern stance. PM Modi, after a high-level meeting with military chiefs, gave the armed forces full freedom to decide India’s response—raising the specter of potential escalation between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
