Supreme Court Refuses to Entertain Plea for Judicial Probe into Pahalgam Attack, Cites Need to Uphold Morale of Forces

In a significant decision, the Supreme Court on Thursday declined to entertain a petition seeking a judicial probe into the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives in Jammu and Kashmir. The bench, headed by Justice Surya Kant, stressed the importance of national unity and the morale of security forces during such sensitive times.

“This is the crucial hour when each and every Indian has joined hands to fight terrorism. Don’t demoralise the forces. Look at the sensitivity of the issue,” observed Justice Surya Kant while dismissing the plea.

The petitioners had sought a court-monitored investigation into the April 22 attack, arguing that accountability was essential to prevent such future incidents. However, the apex court noted that initiating such probes at a time when counter-terror operations are underway could undermine the confidence and morale of the security agencies on the ground.

The court’s decision comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, with Indian agencies ramping up their counter-terror measures in response to the Pahalgam incident, one of the deadliest in recent years.

The Pahalgam attack was reportedly carried out by members of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, with involvement from local sleeper cells. As the country rallies behind its armed forces and intelligence agencies, the Supreme Court’s refusal reinforces the message of solidarity and trust in India’s security infrastructure.
