‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ Opens at ₹6.75 Crore on Day 1; Positive Word-of-Mouth Fuels Weekend Hopes
Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s much-anticipated film ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ hit theatres on May 23, witnessing a modest start at the box office. Directed by Karan Sharma, the time-loop comedy earned an estimated ₹6.75 crore on its opening day, with occupancy peaking at 31.27% during evening shows across India.
Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, the film had earlier postponed its original May 9 release due to heightened nationwide security following Operation Sindoor, before confirming a May 23 theatrical debut.
According to early trade reports, the film recorded a 19.36% overall Hindi 2D occupancy, starting slow in the morning with just 9.40%, but showing promising evening momentum. The opening numbers surpassed Rao’s previous outing, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video (₹5.5 crore), though it trails behind the blockbuster Stree 2 (₹51.8 crore opening).
‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ tells the quirky story of a soon-to-be-married man stuck in a time loop, reliving the day before his wedding. While the narrative intrigued viewers, early reviews have been mixed. India Today called it “an idea with potential, but one that needs more introspection.”
Despite the slow start, rising footfalls and positive word-of-mouth suggest a promising weekend ahead for the film.
