At the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting held on May 23, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a bold vision for India’s development, urging states to identify and develop at least one globally competitive tourist destination. Under the banner of “One State, One Global Destination,” the Prime Minister emphasized that world-class infrastructure and amenities at these destinations would not only boost tourism but also stimulate regional development.
The meeting, attended by several chief ministers including N. Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh), M.K. Stalin (Tamil Nadu), and Revanth Reddy (Telangana), was Modi’s first with state leaders following Operation Sindoor and heightened tensions with Pakistan.
Despite the recent tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, PM Modi’s tourism push signals resilience and a forward-looking agenda. He also emphasized the urgent need for “future-ready cities” that are sustainable, innovative, and inclusive—paving the way for a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047.
Calling for greater Centre-State collaboration, Modi stated, “If the Centre and all the States work together as Team India, no goal is impossible.”
He also highlighted the critical role of women’s workforce participation, urging legal and policy reforms to ensure respectful and meaningful inclusion.
The meeting, however, saw some absences, with chief ministers from Karnataka, Kerala, and Puducherry not in attendance.
