  • PublishedMay 31, 2025

Himachal Pradesh is currently experiencing intense pre-monsoon activity, with widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds disrupting normal life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alerts for several districts and yellow alerts across most parts of the state for the next five days, urging residents, commuters, and farmers to remain vigilant.

Heavy rainfall has been recorded in various areas, with Rajgarh receiving the highest at 70 mm, followed by Ghaghas (47 mm), Jubberhatti (46.1 mm), and Kasauli (40 mm). Other areas like Baldwara, Neri, Dharampur, and Shimla also witnessed significant showers ranging from 27–37 mm.

Thunderstorms have affected key regions including Shimla, Jubberhatti, Kangra, Bhuntar, Palampur, and Sundernagar. Gusty winds reached speeds of 65 kmph in Bilaspur and over 60 kmph in Neri, with strong winds also reported from Bajaura and Kukumseri. A hailstorm was reported in Shimla as well.

Temperature fluctuations have also been noted. Keylong recorded the lowest at 4.0°C, while Una remained the hottest at 41.5°C. Mid-hill regions saw a 2–5°C rise in temperatures, while higher altitudes remained normal or slightly cooler.

According to IMD forecasts, rain and thunderstorms will continue across the state for the next five days, driven by an active cyclonic circulation over Punjab and multiple western disturbances. The IMD has warned of lightning, gusty winds (40–60 kmph), and potential power and traffic disruptions. Farmers are advised to delay irrigation and pesticide use, and commuters should stay alert for landslides, slippery roads, and low visibility.
