TikTok Star Sana Yousuf Shot Dead in Islamabad, Suspect Arrested
In a shocking incident that has sparked global outrage, 17-year-old Pakistani TikTok star Sana Yousuf was shot dead at her residence in Islamabad on Monday. The suspect, 22-year-old Umar Hayat, also a social media content creator, was arrested in Faisalabad on Tuesday and presented before a court on Wednesday.
According to Islamabad Police, Umar allegedly shot Sana after she repeatedly rejected his advances and offers of friendship. The two had known each other for about a year, and the suspect had travelled to Islamabad in late May, reportedly to wish her on her birthday. However, the two did not meet.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi confirmed that Umar was unemployed and had been persistently trying to contact the victim. After being ignored, he allegedly committed the murder and fled with Sana’s phone in an attempt to destroy evidence. Police have since recovered both the phone and the murder weapon.
Court proceedings are underway, with the suspect ordered to be presented again on June 18 for pretrial hearings. The police have sought additional time to complete their investigation and formally charge the accused with murder.
Sana Yousuf, who had over a million followers across social media platforms, was known for her engaging content and vibrant personality. Her tragic death has triggered widespread condemnation and calls for greater protection of women and public figures online.
