A tragic Air India flight crash has claimed the lives of at least 265 people and left many injured after Flight AI 171, bound for London from Ahmedabad, crashed moments after takeoff on Thursday. The aircraft crashed onto a resident doctors’ hostel in Ahmedabad, causing significant damage and casualties among students and residents.

Rescue teams have completed operations at the crash site. The airline confirmed that only one of the 242 passengers and crew onboard survived the accident miraculously. Early reports suggest the crash occurred as the plane was lifting off from Ahmedabad airport.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Gujarat has reported the deaths of three MBBS students in the accident and confirmed that 45 others have been hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the crash. Emergency services and hospitals in the area are providing critical care to the injured.

The black box, or digital video recorder, which is expected to hold vital information about the cause of the crash, has not yet been recovered from the debris, according to Air India’s official statement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ahmedabad to assess the situation firsthand and expressed deep grief and condolences to the families of the victims. In a statement, he said he was “stunned and saddened” by the tragic loss of lives.

Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident. IndiaToday.in will provide ongoing live updates as new information becomes available.
