Senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a “prime asset for India” in a column reflecting on the recently concluded Operation Sindoor global outreach. Tharoor, who was part of a five-nation diplomatic mission, lauded Modi’s “energy, dynamism, and willingness to engage” on the global stage.

In a detailed article published in The Hindu, Tharoor emphasized that India’s united front during the Operation Sindoor outreach showcased its strategic clarity and growing global stature. He highlighted the importance of soft power, sustained diplomacy, and the need to focus on tech, trade, and tradition as pillars of India’s global engagement.

Tharoor acknowledged challenges faced during the mission, including Colombia’s initial response, which he said was later corrected after diplomatic efforts. He also noted a significant shift in the US stance, with American officials echoing India’s concerns about cross-border terrorism and urging stronger action against groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Despite internal party criticism over his praise for the Modi government, Tharoor reiterated that his comments were based on facts and diplomatic outcomes. He emphasized the importance of bipartisan cooperation in matters of national interest.

Tharoor, along with other delegation members, met Prime Minister Modi on June 11 after completing the mission. His remarks, though controversial within Congress circles, underline a growing call for constructive engagement across party lines on global diplomacy.
