Iran Executes Three Over Mossad Ties, Arrests 700 Amid Fragile Ceasefire with Israel
In a significant and alarming escalation, Iran has executed three individuals convicted of spying for Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, just a day after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Iran took effect. According to the Iranian judiciary’s Mizan news agency, the executed men were found guilty of collaborating with Mossad and smuggling equipment used in an assassination plot targeting an unnamed individual.
In a parallel crackdown, Iran has reportedly arrested 700 others for alleged connections with Israel, as reported by the state-affiliated Nournews. These arrests and executions highlight continued deep tensions despite diplomatic efforts to halt hostilities.
The executions come immediately after a U.S.-mediated truce that followed 12 days of intense military conflict, during which the U.S. backed Israel and conducted airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites — Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The ceasefire deal, considered hard-won, has faced early challenges with both sides accusing each other of violations.
U.S. President Donald Trump responded to the tensions on Truth Social, asserting that the ceasefire is holding: “Israel is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home… the ceasefire is in effect.”
The recent flare-up was triggered by Israeli allegations that Iran was nearing nuclear weapons capability — a claim Iran has strongly denied.
Despite international pressure and calls for restraint, the executions and mass arrests underscore the fragility of the ceasefire and the deep-rooted mistrust between Tehran and Tel Aviv.
