Punjab has confirmed 151 dengue cases and over 11,800 suspected cases, along with 25 cases of chikungunya, 16 of which are from Amritsar. In response, the state government has ramped up its efforts under the campaign “Har Shukarvaar, Dengue Te Vaar”, urging communities to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
On Friday, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh led inspections in Patiala’s Ranjit Nagar and Dashmesh Nagar, where mosquito larvae were found in water containers kept for birds and stray animals. He also flagged vacant plots and car wash centres as major hotspots. Emphasizing the importance of public involvement, Dr. Singh said, “Fumigation helps, but community awareness is our strongest weapon.”
A door-to-door awareness and inspection drive has been launched in Patiala to spread preventive information and encourage cleanup activities.
District-wise, Kapurthala reported the highest confirmed dengue cases (26), followed by SAS Nagar (24), Faridkot (18), Tarn Taran (17), and Amritsar and Hoshiarpur (12 each).
With the monsoon increasing mosquito risks, officials are calling on residents to check their surroundings every Friday and join the collective fight to stop dengue and chikungunya from spreading further.
