Dowry Harassment Claims Life of Newlywed Woman in Tamil Nadu; Three Arrested
In a heart-wrenching case of alleged dowry harassment, 27-year-old Ridhanya, a newlywed woman from Tiruppur, died by suicide after consuming pesticide in a parked car. The tragic incident took place just two months after her marriage to Kavin Kumar, 28, in April 2025.
Ridhanya, daughter of businessman Annadurai, was reportedly pressured over dowry despite giving 800 grams of gold and a Volvo car worth ₹70 lakh during the wedding. She left home on Sunday, stating she was going to a temple, but was later found dead in her vehicle near Mondipalayam.
Before her death, Ridhanya sent seven emotional voice messages to her father, revealing harrowing details of physical and mental torture by her husband and in-laws. In her recordings, she accused them of deceit, continuous abuse, and pressuring her for more dowry. “They are assaulting me mentally while he is torturing me physically,” she said.
Her devastated father, Annadurai, demanded justice, stating his daughter had pleaded for help multiple times. “They deceived us with their respectable image,” he told reporters.
Police have arrested Kavin Kumar, his father Eswaramoorthy, and mother Chithradevi under relevant charges, including dowry harassment and abetment to suicide. A post-mortem was conducted at the District Government Hospital, and further investigation is ongoing.
Authorities urge families to report dowry-related abuse promptly and call for greater awareness to prevent such tragedies.
