Comedian Maheep Singh Cancels Dehradun Show Following Threats Over Content
  • PublishedJuly 1, 2025

Popular stand-up comedian Maheep Singh was forced to cancel his scheduled show in Dehradun after facing threats and protests over alleged “vulgar content.” A group staged a demonstration outside the venue, reportedly issuing warnings to Singh and the event organizers. The protest led to the mall management withdrawing support, compelling the comedian to cancel the event.

In a video shared on social media on June 30, Singh detailed the incident, stating, “They said if we go ahead with the show, they will protest aggressively, calling the comedy vulgar—even though they haven’t seen it.” He further added that the group threatened the mall manager, causing fear and disruption. “They’re from a prominent group which uses the name of God in their title. We’ve muted that part in the video,” he noted.

Known for his viral “Mummy Kaisi Hai” joke and appearance on India’s Got Latent with Samay Raina, Maheep Singh has been a voice for observational and family-based comedy. He began his stand-up career in 2013 and co-won the Best Stand-Up Comedian award on Comedy Central alongside Zakir Khan. He is also the founder of the New Delhi Comedy Club, which has launched several successful comic careers.

Singh expressed disappointment over the growing intolerance toward comedy and urged for better protection of artistic freedom in public spaces.
