Kareena Kapoor Says She and Karisma, Not Ranbir, Carried Forward the Kapoor Legacy
In a candid interview with Mojo Story, actor Kareena Kapoor Khan reflected on her and sister Karisma Kapoor’s contribution to the Kapoor family’s cinematic legacy, asserting that it was the two sisters who took the baton forward long before cousin Ranbir Kapoor entered Bollywood.
Speaking proudly, Kareena said, “I think we’ve carried on the Kapoor legacy. It was only me and Karisma before Ranbir came in. So the two girls, actually, like my mother says, they’re not tigresses, they are tigers… They did take the legacy forward.” Kareena noted that even her father, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, agreed with this sentiment.
Karisma Kapoor made her debut in 1991 with Prem Qaidi and went on to star in blockbuster films like Raja Hindustani, Coolie No. 1, and Dil To Pagal Hai. Kareena began her journey with Refugee in 2000 and became one of the most celebrated actors of her generation with hits like Jab We Met, Omkara, and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
Ranbir Kapoor, who debuted in 2007 with Saawariya, has since become a leading star, but Kareena’s comments shed light on the Kapoor sisters’ early and significant impact on Indian cinema.
Kareena, last seen in Singham Again (2024), recently celebrated 25 years in the industry. Karisma’s latest outing was Netflix’s Murder Mubarak (2024).
