Farah Khan Reflects on Early Marriage Plans, Calls Mother Her ‘Enemy’ Back Then
Renowned filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan recently opened up about her early thoughts on marriage and her changing perspective over time. In a candid interaction with social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija on her YouTube vlog, Khan recalled wanting to marry at the age of 23 — a decision strongly opposed by her mother.
Sharing a humorous yet emotional memory, Farah said, “At 23, I thought my life was over and I wanted to get married. But my mom said, ‘If you get married so young, I’ll throw you out of the house.’ I cried and called her my dushman (enemy).” She added that now, in hindsight, she is thankful her mother didn’t agree. “I got married around 40, and I’m very happy. I have three beautiful children and a good husband. At 40, you can do what you want.”
Farah Khan is married to filmmaker and editor Shirish Kunder. The two met during her directorial debut, Main Hoon Na (2004), and tied the knot in December of the same year. They welcomed triplets in 2008. Farah’s directorial credits include hits like Om Shanti Om (2007) and Happy New Year (2014).
Most recently, Khan appeared as a judge and host on Celebrity Master Chef (2025), alongside chefs Ranveer Brar and Vikas Khanna. Her reflections continue to inspire fans with honesty, humour, and wisdom about life, career, and family.
