Strong Tremors Jolt Delhi-NCR After 4.4 Magnitude Earthquake in Haryana’s Jhajjar
A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck Jhajjar, Haryana at 9:04 AM on Thursday, sending strong tremors across Delhi and its adjoining areas in the National Capital Region (NCR). According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), Jhajjar — located around 60 km from Delhi — was the epicenter of the quake.
Residents in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad reported sudden jolts that lasted for a few seconds, causing brief panic across homes and workplaces. Tremors were also felt in several Haryana towns including Sonipat, Rohtak, and Hisar. Citizens took to social media to share visuals and personal accounts of the quake.
This seismic activity comes just a day after heavy rains caused widespread waterlogging and traffic disruption across Delhi-NCR. Fortunately, no reports of damage or casualties have been received so far, confirmed the Delhi Police through a post on X (formerly Twitter). “We pray for everyone’s safety and assure that all systems are on alert,” the statement read.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also issued safety advisories on social media, highlighting dos and don’ts before, during, and after an earthquake.
Delhi falls under Zone IV on India’s seismic map, indicating moderate risk, and frequently experiences tremors due to seismic activity from the Himalayas and surrounding regions.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, and citizens are advised to stay informed and prepared.
