Russian Passenger Plane Carrying 50 People Goes Missing in Far East; Search Operations Underway
Authorities in Russia have launched an urgent search operation after air traffic controllers lost contact with an An-24 passenger aircraft carrying approximately 50 people, including five children, en route to Tynda in the Amur region, near the Chinese border.
The plane, operated by Siberia-based airline Angara, reportedly disappeared from radar screens while approaching its destination. Regional Governor Vasily Orlov confirmed the incident on Telegram, stating that all necessary forces and resources have been deployed for search and rescue efforts.
According to preliminary information, the aircraft had 43 passengers and 6 crew members onboard. However, the local emergencies ministry has released slightly different figures, estimating the total number of people on board at around 40.
The An-24 aircraft is widely used in regional air travel across Russia, especially in remote and rugged areas. The disappearance has raised significant concern, and authorities have not yet ruled out possible causes.
As of now, no distress signal has been reported, and the fate of the passengers remains unknown. Search operations are continuing across the region under challenging weather and terrain conditions.
