A Magistrate court in Mumbai has issued a notice to actor Rhea Chakraborty regarding the closure report submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the high-profile death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The notice, issued by Magistrate R.D. Chavan, is part of legal protocol allowing the original complainant to respond before the court accepts or rejects the CBI’s findings.
The CBI, which took over the investigation from Mumbai and Bihar police, filed its closure report in March 2025, concluding that no criminality was found in the case. Chakraborty has been asked to respond to the notice by August 12.
This procedural step follows Chakraborty’s 2020 complaint against Rajput’s sisters — Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh — and Dr. Tarun Nathu Ram. She alleged that they arranged prescription medication for Rajput without a proper medical consultation, despite his mental health struggles. Her complaint included accusations of forgery and invoked sections of the Indian Penal Code and the NDPS Act.
Rajput was found dead in his Bandra residence on June 14, 2020, sparking nationwide attention and intense legal scrutiny. A separate FIR had been filed in Patna by Rajput’s father, accusing Chakraborty and her family of abetment to suicide and financial misconduct — allegations she publicly denied.
The court will consider Chakraborty’s response before taking further action on the closure report.
