At least 27 civilians have been killed in the latest wave of Russian airstrikes across Ukraine, with glide bombs and ballistic missiles targeting civilian sites including a prison in Zaporizhzhia and a maternity hospital in Dnipro. The Zaporizhzhia strike left 16 inmates dead and over 90 injured, while other attacks killed a pregnant woman and several civilians in the Kharkiv and Kherson regions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes, calling them “deliberate, targeted attacks” on civilian infrastructure. He welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s accelerated deadline, now August 7–9, to halt Russian aggression or face sanctions and tariffs.
Despite global outrage, the Kremlin remains defiant. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov insisted Russia will pursue its goals, while former President Dmitry Medvedev warned Trump against issuing ultimatums.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported downing 32 of 37 Shahed drones and intercepting missiles. In retaliation, Ukrainian drones struck oil depots and military infrastructure deep inside Russia.
The U.N. and global leaders have urged restraint and renewed efforts toward peace. Meanwhile, Russia claims capture of Novoukrainka and Temyrivka, escalating the war of attrition in eastern Ukraine.
The violence comes exactly three years after the Olenivka prison blast, with fresh evidence again pointing to Russia’s responsibility in that 2022 war crime.
