Hindu Raksha Dal Shuts Down KFC Outlet in Ghaziabad Over Meat Sale During Sawan Tensions flared in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on Thursday when members of the right-wing group Hindu Raksha Dal stormed a KFC outlet, protesting the sale of non-vegetarian food during the holy Hindu month of Sawan. The group also targeted a local eatery, Nazir, demanding that both establishments cease serving meat, citing religious sentiments. Videos of the protest quickly went viral on social media. Footage shows protesters waving saffron flags, chanting slogans like “Jai Shri Ram” and “Har Har Mahadev,” and forcibly pulling down the shutter of the KFC outlet. The group later posed in front of the closed shopfront, continuing their chants and calls for a ban on meat sales during Sawan. The protesters, though not violent, were seen confronting staff inside the restaurants, firmly demanding only vegetarian food be served during this sacred month. One member of the group stated, “All of these items (non-veg) should be banned in the month of Sawan.” Sawan, or Shravan, holds deep spiritual importance for devotees of Lord Shiva. Many Hindus observe strict fasts and abstain from consuming meat, alcohol, and even onion and garlic during this time. The Kanwar Yatra—a major pilgrimage involving collecting Ganga water for Shiva temples—also takes place during Sawan. While some local authorities impose partial meat bans out of respect for religious practices, there is no official state-wide restriction. The incident has reignited debate over religious sentiments versus business freedoms.
