PM Modi Announces ₹1,500 Crore Relief Package for Flood-Hit Himachal Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited Himachal Pradesh to assess the large-scale devastation caused by recent floods, landslides, and heavy monsoon rains. Conducting an aerial survey of the worst-hit regions, the Prime Minister later held a review meeting in Kangra with state officials, before interacting with affected families and disaster response personnel.

Acknowledging the severe damage, estimated at over ₹4,100 crore, PM Modi announced a relief package worth ₹1,500 crore to support rebuilding and restoration efforts. The package includes the advance release of the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and benefits under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. He also declared an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives and ₹50,000 for the injured.

The state has reported 370 deaths, including 205 from rain-related incidents, while 41 remain missing. Infrastructure losses have been significant, with more than 6,300 houses, 461 shops, and factories damaged. The state recorded 136 major landslides, 95 flash floods, and 45 cloudbursts this season.

PM Modi outlined a comprehensive recovery plan focusing on rebuilding homes under PM Awas Yojana, restoring national highways, repairing schools, and providing support through the PM’s National Relief Fund. Additional aid will be extended to farmers and livestock owners, with damaged houses and schools to be geotagged for faster assistance.

Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment, the Prime Minister said all necessary efforts would be made to help Himachal Pradesh recover and rebuild stronger.
