The Delhi High Court on Friday witnessed heated exchanges between senior lawyers during the ongoing inheritance dispute over late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s estate, valued at approximately Rs 30,000 crore.
The case was filed by Kapur’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, from his second marriage with actress Karisma Kapur. The lawsuit seeks partition, rendition of accounts, and a permanent injunction over their late father’s estate. The children allege that Kapur’s widow, Priya Sachdeva, withheld documents and critical details regarding his will.
A viral courtroom video captured the verbal spat between Rajiv Nayar, representing Priya Sachdeva Kapur, and Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing on behalf of Karisma Kapur and her children. The clash began when Nayar objected to interruptions, telling Jethmalani, “Please don’t interrupt me. I am not used to your interruptions.” Jethmalani retorted sharply, “Don’t shout at me. You interrupted me. If you shout, you’ll get paid back in coin. I am not a pushover.”
Central to the dispute is the validity of a will dated March 21, 2025, which emerged weeks after Priya Sachdeva initially claimed that no will existed and that assets were held under the RK Family Trust. She further told the court that the two children had already received assets worth Rs 1,900 crore from the trust before filing their suit.
The High Court will now consider whether this transfer impacts the children’s claims on Sunjay Kapur’s personal estate. The matter remains under judicial review.
