Opposition parties in Punjab today strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for what they termed a rapid deterioration of the State’s law and order situation. Leaders from both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress expressed concern over a series of recent killings and alleged that the government had failed in its responsibility to maintain public safety.
During a visit to Ferozepur to offer condolences to the family of Naveen Arora—son of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Baldev Raj Arora, who was shot dead recently—BJP Punjab president Sunil Jakhar said that targeted killings were becoming disturbingly frequent. He noted that incidents involving RSS leader Jagdish Gagneja, Vikas Bagga, and now Naveen Arora followed a similar pattern, suggesting a larger conspiracy aimed at disturbing Punjab’s communal harmony.
Mr. Jakhar further alleged that the senior leadership of the AAP was “directly responsible” for the worsening law and order situation, stating that the State government had “completely failed to discharge its responsibility.”
Echoing similar concerns, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring accused the AAP government of having “completely abdicated its authority,” claiming that criminals and gangsters were now operating with impunity. Highlighting two recent killings—one of a trader’s son in Ferozepur and another trader in Amritsar reportedly targeted for ransom—Mr. Warring said, “Nobody is safe in Punjab today. Sadly, killings have been normalized in Punjab under the AAP regime.”
Both parties urged the State government to take immediate corrective measures and restore public confidence by strengthening law enforcement and ensuring swift action against those responsible for the recent violence.
