Indian Air Force Confirms Loss of Wing Commander Naman Syal in Tejas Aircraft Crash at Dubai Air Show 2025
The Indian Air Force (IAF) deeply mourns the tragic loss of Wing Commander Naman Syal, who lost his life following the crash of a Tejas Light Combat Aircraft during an aerial display at the Dubai Air Show 2025 on Friday.
Wing Commander Syal, 34, was a highly skilled and dedicated officer originally from Patiyalkar village, Tehsil Nagrota Bagwan. He is survived by his wife—also an officer in the Indian Air Force—their six-year-old daughter, and his parents. His passing has sent shockwaves through his unit, the IAF fraternity, and his native village, where relatives and community members have gathered in profound grief.
According to eyewitness reports, the aircraft crashed shortly after take-off while performing a scheduled display. Emergency responders and firefighters reached the site immediately. The air show was temporarily halted as rescue operations were carried out.
In an official statement, the Indian Air Force said:
“An IAF Tejas aircraft met with an accident during an aerial display at the Dubai Air Show. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident. IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief.”
A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Family members of Wing Commander Syal, speaking to media outlets, remembered him as a humble, disciplined, and accomplished officer who was on the verge of receiving a promotion. His father, a retired principal who previously served in the Army Medical Corps, and his wife, currently attending a course in Kolkata, have been informed and are receiving full support from the IAF.
The Indian Air Force requests the media and public to respect the privacy of the grieving family during this difficult time.
