Amid intensifying speculation surrounding the health and safety of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, his sons Kasim Khan and Suleiman Isa Khan have issued an urgent appeal demanding verifiable proof that their father is alive and safe. The 72-year-old PTI founder has been imprisoned since August 2023 after multiple convictions, which he maintains are politically motivated.
In a new written statement released by Kasim Khan, the family expressed deep concern over the absence of any confirmed communication with Imran Khan for several months, despite a court order allowing weekly meetings. Kasim stated that the silence has heightened fears that “something irreversible” may have occurred.
“Not knowing whether your father is safe, injured, or even alive is a form of psychological torture,” Kasim said, adding that their family has received no independently verified updates on Khan’s condition.
Kasim and Suleiman, who live in London with their mother Jemima Goldsmith and remain uninvolved in Pakistani politics, reaffirmed their commitment to seeking transparency regarding their father’s wellbeing. Kasim also revealed that he last saw Imran Khan in November 2022, shortly after the assassination attempt targeting the former prime minister.
“It is a human rights emergency. Pressure must come from every direction. We draw strength from him, but we need to know he is safe,” he added.
PTI Lawmaker Says Imran Khan is Alive
Responding to the sons’ plea, PTI Senator Khurram Zeeshan told ANI that Imran Khan is “alive,” but claimed that the former premier is under pressure to leave Pakistan as part of a possible deal.
According to Zeeshan:
“They are trying to strike a deal with Imran Khan, asking him to leave the country. They even promise concessions if he goes abroad and stays silent… But Imran Khan will never agree to it.”
Background on Imran Khan’s Imprisonment
Imran Khan has been jailed since August 2023 following convictions in multiple cases, including:
Toshakhana case – alleged unlawful sale of state gifts
Diplomatic cable case – sentenced to 10 years
Al-Qadir Trust case – 14-year sentence tied to alleged improper land deals
Khan has consistently argued that these cases are part of a political vendetta following his removal from office in April 2022.
Call for Transparency
The family reiterates that the lack of verified access and communication violates basic human rights, urging international bodies, rights organisations, and global leadership to demand transparency from authorities regarding Imran Khan’s condition.
