PM Modi Pays Tribute to Sahibzadas at NDA Meet, Calls for Nationwide Observance of ‘Veer Bal Diwas’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday saluted the supreme sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh’s younger sons—Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh—during the NDA parliamentary party meeting held in Parliament. Calling their courage “a message for all,” the Prime Minister urged the nation to observe Veer Bal Diwas, commemorated every year on December 26, with widespread awareness and reverence.
Recalling the unwavering conviction with which the Sahibzadas upheld their faith even when faced with death, Modi emphasised the need for India to remember and honour the legacy of the sons of the tenth Sikh Guru. The central government had declared December 26 as Veer Bal Diwas in 2022 to mark their martyrdom; they were bricked alive by Mughal faujdar of Sirhind, Wazir Khan, in 1704.
Reform Movement “In Full Express Mode”
Addressing the NDA MPs, the Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to rapid reforms, stating that India had entered a “reform express phase” marked by swift policy actions and citizen-centric decision-making.
“The goal is to remove everyday hurdles from people’s lives so they can realise their full potential,” Modi said.
He urged MPs to strengthen their connection with citizens and highlight day-to-day issues so that reforms could reach “every household.” His remarks come at a time when public attention is focused on the ongoing IndiGo crisis, with the government promising stringent action and greater accountability in the aviation sector.
Push to End Red-Tapism and Paperwork
Modi also underlined the government’s intention to eliminate cumbersome paperwork, including bulky 30–40 page forms that burden ordinary people. He highlighted how self-certification—introduced in place of forms previously requiring signatures from gazetted officers—had worked successfully for the past decade and reinforced a culture of trust between the government and citizens.
“We must eliminate repetitive data submissions and deliver services directly to people’s doorsteps,” he said, stressing the need to modernize administrative processes and remove outdated bureaucratic barriers.
A Call for National Unity and Historical Awareness
Closing his address, the Prime Minister paid glowing tribute to the Sahibzadas, describing their unshakeable resolve in refusing to convert to Islam despite extreme pressure as a lesson in courage and conviction that resonates across generations.
As the nation approaches Veer Bal Diwas on December 26, Modi’s message underscores both the historical importance of the day and the government’s intent to ensure its wider recognition across India.
