In a significant milestone for flood rehabilitation efforts in Punjab, the Kalgidhar Trust announced the completion of 100 newly constructed houses for families affected by recent floods. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Press Club, Sector 27, Chandigarh, where renowned Punjabi singer Kanwar Grewal lauded the Trust’s extensive humanitarian work.
During the event, Grewal presented his song “Seva – The Anthem”, a tribute to the spirit of courage, compassion, and selfless service that he said defines Punjab’s response to crises. He commended the Kalgidhar Trust and Akal Academies for their large-scale rescue and relief initiatives across flood-hit areas.
According to the Trust, the housing project was executed under the leadership of Dr Davinder Singh and Bhai Jagjit Singh, with significant support from donors. The homes are part of a broader effort that began on August 26, when the Trust mobilised teams to flood-affected regions across the state.
As part of its relief operations, the Kalgidhar Trust rescued 5,500 people from 86 villages using boats. Akal Academies across the state were converted into relief camps, providing temporary shelter and essential supplies. The organisation also distributed large quantities of relief material to displaced families.
With the construction of permanent homes now complete, the Trust reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing rehabilitation. “Our efforts in rescue, relief, and long-term rehabilitation will continue to ensure that affected families can rebuild their lives with dignity,” the organisation stated.
