Tourists Rescued After SUV Gets Stuck in Fast-Flowing Sindh River in J&K
A group of youngsters narrowly escaped a potentially dangerous situation after a Mahindra Scorpio driven into the fast-flowing Sindh River for recording a social media reel became stranded in strong currents near Sonamarg.
The incident reportedly took place near Hotel Sindh Resorts, where the driver allegedly entered the riverbed while attempting to film videos and perform stunts. The vehicle soon became stuck amid turbulent water, leaving the occupants stranded in the middle of the river and exposing them to serious risk.
After receiving information about the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel immediately reached the spot. Local residents also joined the rescue operation, and the occupants were safely evacuated from the vehicle and brought back to the riverbank. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The Scorpio was subsequently recovered from the river.
Police identified the driver as Mohd Ibad Bhat, a resident of Nawakadal, Srinagar. Another occupant was identified as Naseer Ahmad Mugal, a resident of Mahore in Reasi.
Authorities stated that driving a vehicle into a fast-flowing river while attempting to record social media content amounted to gross negligence and posed a serious threat to the safety of those involved as well as the public.
