5 Best Movies by Imtiaz Ali to be watched once in a lifetime | Gabruu

The stellar writer-director Imtiaz Ali holds a separate fan base for rebooting the genre of romance that strikes a cord with every generation. He debuted in the industry with his movie ‘Socha Na Tha’ which didn’t do so well at the box office but then he succeeded with ‘Jab We Met’ big-time.

And since then, he is one of the valuable filmmakers of Bollywood. Imtiaz’ characterisation and his way of storytelling are not just relatable but they also make the audiences swoon in love. From his amazing long list of movies, here are some of the movies which put him in a league of his own. Have a look at some of the must-watch movies made by Imtiaz Ali:

Jab We Met (2007)

Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor, the movie revolves around a free, outspoken girl ‘Geet’ played by Kareena. Her character's name is Geet who stole the show and also gave Imtiaz Ali his first blockbuster. This was the movie which established him as one of the upcoming big names in the Hindi film industry.

Love Aaj Kal (2009)

Starring Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan in the lead, the film explores the ‘complicated’ status of couples. The movie very well connects with those audiences who have the fear of commitment. Portraying parallel love stories is not everyone’s cup of tea but Imtiaz did it exceedingly well. The movie was not just written and directed by Imtiaz but was also edited by him.

Rockstar (2011)

This movie is said to be one of the finest performances of Ranbir Kapoor's career before ‘Sanju’. The story of a college boy who becomes an international sensation believes that good music only comes when you are in pain. And during his course to establish himself as the best singer, his path crosses with Heer, a character played by Nargis Fakhri. Imtiaz did a wonderful job in presenting an intricate modern love story which had sadness as its underline. (Something only he can do)

Highway (2014)

Alia Bhatt’s transformation in the film was out of the box. This movie turned Alia into a reliable actor than just any other star kid on the block. Imtiaz handled her quite well and turned her career upside-down. The story of a girl being kidnapped and then discovering herself and the meaning of life is how Imtiaz Ali likes to his stories to be. Of course, a road-trip capturing the scenic beauty and weaving beautiful unsaid chemistry between Alia and Randeep Hooda is what makes it a must-watch.

Tamasha (2015)

Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, the movie focuses on the dual personalities that everyone carries in their real lives. It explains that one should do what one aspires to do rather than doing something meaningless. Ranbir Kapoor’s character, who wants to be a narrator, in reality, is doing some silly bank job with which he isn’t satisfied. However, Deepika’s character helps out Ranbir’s character to follow his passion and dreams that he wants to achieve. The beautiful melancholic romance between Deepika- Ranbir’s characters connects the most with the audiences.
