Ajay Devgn and Kajol Support 8-Hour Work Shifts for New Mothers in the Film Industry
At the trailer launch of their upcoming film Maa, actors Ajay Devgn and Kajol voiced strong support for 8-hour work shifts for new mothers in the film industry, calling it a much-needed and increasingly accepted change.
When asked if it’s practical for new mothers to request shorter working hours, Kajol responded warmly, “I love the fact that we could work less.” Ajay Devgn added, “It’s not that it’s not going well with people. Most honest filmmakers won’t have a problem with this. The industry understands the need for balance, and many already work within 8 to 9-hour shifts.”
Their statements come amid growing calls from female actors and new mothers in Bollywood for better work-life balance. Notably, Deepika Padukone reportedly exited a major project citing issues with work hours and remuneration.
Kajol’s upcoming film Maa, directed by Vishal Furia, tells the powerful story of a mother who transforms into goddess Kali to battle ancient evil. The film also stars Indraneil Sengupta, Jitin Gulati, and Kherin Sharma, with a screenplay by Saiwyn Quadras and music by Harsh Upadhyay, Rocky Khanna, and Shiv Malhotra. Maa is produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Subbarayan and is set to release in theatres on June 27, 2025.
