Punjab Faces Second COVID-19 Death Amid Rising Cases; 69-Year-Old Woman Succumbs in Ludhiana
Punjab is witnessing a worrying surge in COVID-19 cases as the state reports its second death due to the virus. A 69-year-old woman from the village of Jonewal near Kumkalan in Ludhiana district passed away after being admitted to PGI for treatment. This tragic incident marks the second fatality in Ludhiana linked to COVID-19, following the earlier death of a male patient.
The woman’s family members who came into contact with her have also tested positive for COVID-19 and are currently under home quarantine. Earlier, another COVID-positive patient from Ludhiana had died in Chandigarh. In response to the rising cases, the health department has issued strict advisory guidelines emphasizing the use of masks, regular sanitization, and following infection prevention protocols.
Currently, seven active COVID-19 cases have been reported across Punjab. Mohali has identified two positive cases — a 21-year-old girl visiting relatives from Uttar Pradesh and a young local resident. Mansa district has also confirmed two new positive patients.
Across India, COVID-19 cases are again on the rise. As of yesterday, the total number of active cases has reached 5,364 with four new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours. All states have been instructed to ensure adequate availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators, and essential medicines to manage the increasing caseload.
The government continues to urge citizens to strictly follow safety measures to curb the spread of the virus and protect themselves and others during this critical time.
