Shubhanshu Shukla’s Axiom Mission 4 Launch Postponed Again; New Date Pending
  • PublishedJune 20, 2025

The highly anticipated launch of Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), carrying Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla to the International Space Station (ISS), has been postponed for the seventh time. Originally scheduled for June 22, the mission’s lift-off has been delayed due to ongoing “operational and safety concerns” at the ISS, according to NASA and its partners.

A joint statement from NASA, Axiom Space, and SpaceX confirmed that the launch scheduled for Sunday, June 22, will not proceed, with a new launch date to be announced in the coming days. The agencies emphasized prioritizing crew safety and ensuring all protocols are met before proceeding.

The four astronauts on board—including Shubhanshu Shukla, mission commander Peggy Whitson, and ESA specialists Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski and Tibor Kapu—have been in quarantine in Florida since May 14 and are reported to be healthy and in good spirits. Axiom Space representatives stated the crew continues to trust the process and remain ready for launch when conditions permit.

The launch window remains open until June 30, with a backup opportunity in mid-July if the deadline is missed. This mission marks a significant milestone, as Shubhanshu Shukla will become the second Indian astronaut to travel to space, nearly four decades after Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma’s historic journey in 1984.

Axiom Mission 4 is a private spaceflight operated by Axiom Space in partnership with NASA and SpaceX, aiming to advance commercial human spaceflight capabilities.
