Mumbai Teacher Arrested for Sexual Assault of Male Student; Nation Reels Amid Widening Campus Safety Concerns
In a shocking revelation, a teacher from one of Mumbai’s most prestigious schools has been arrested for repeatedly sexually assaulting a male student over the span of a year. The alleged assaults occurred in multiple locations, including five-star hotels. The accused is also charged with administering antidepressants to the survivor without medical supervision.
The case came to light when the student, after completing his Higher Secondary exams, disclosed the trauma to his parents. The breakthrough occurred after the teacher sent her domestic help to his residence, allegedly to arrange another meeting. The Dadar police acted swiftly and arrested the teacher under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act, charging her with aggravated sexual assault.
This deeply disturbing case emerges as India faces renewed outrage over campus safety, following another incident in Kolkata. A first-year college student was reportedly gang-raped in the guard’s room of a law college. The accused, Monojit Mishra—a former Trinamool student leader—has also been named in multiple molestation and harassment complaints.
The victim in the Kolkata case alleged to India Today TV that Mishra assaulted her during a college trip, with as many as 15 other female students suffering similar abuse.
These incidents underscore the urgent need for stronger safeguards and accountability mechanisms to ensure student safety in academic institutions nationwide.
