Cloudburst Triggers Flash Floods in Uttarkashi’s Dharali Village; 4 Dead, Over 50 Missing
  • PublishedAugust 5, 2025

A devastating cloudburst struck Dharali village near Gangotri Dham in Uttarkashi on Tuesday at approximately 1:45 PM, unleashing a violent flash flood that has claimed 4 lives and left over 50 people missing. The affected site lies just 4 km from the Indian Army camp in Harsil and close to the revered Gangotri Dham and Mukhba, the winter seat of Ganga Ji.

The cloudburst triggered a powerful torrent of water and debris, sweeping away houses, vegetation, and cutting off all road connectivity to Gangotri. Tourists captured disturbing visuals of the deluge, showing massive debris and floodwater cascading down the hills.

The Kheer Gadh drain in Harsil overflowed, further intensifying the damage. An emergency multi-agency response is underway, with personnel from the Uttarkashi Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Indian Army working tirelessly in relief and rescue operations.

The Indian Army, stationed near the landslide site, was among the first responders and has rescued at least 15 people so far. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed as rescue teams work to reach inaccessible areas.

Authorities urge people to avoid traveling to the affected zones and are continuously monitoring the situation. Relief efforts remain ongoing to locate the missing and support displaced families.
