Arvind Kejriwal Allotted Sprawling Government Bungalow After Legal Battle
Following a prolonged legal tussle with the central government, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been allotted a Type 7 government bungalow at 95 Lodhi Estate. The decision comes after repeated interventions by the Delhi High Court and central agencies.
The bungalow, featuring four bedrooms, a hall, a waiting room, a dining room, and two lawns, was previously allotted to BJP leader Iqbal Singh Laalpura. Kejriwal, who resigned in 2024, had vacated the 6 Flagstaff Marg residence in Civil Lines in October 2024. With Delhi lacking a provision for ex-Chief Ministers’ accommodation, AAP had initiated legal proceedings urging the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Directorate of Estates to provide an official residence for its leader.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal, the current occupant of 5 Ferozshah Road, facilitated a temporary shift for Kejriwal while the legal process concluded. Sources confirmed that Kejriwal and his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, visited the bungalow on Monday and plan to move in after necessary renovations.
The allotment comes amid lingering public discussion of the ‘sheeshmahal’ controversy, which criticized renovations at the official Chief Minister’s residence. AAP has maintained that the Type 7 bungalow reflects the entitlement for a national party head and ensures functional space for Kejriwal and his family.
This development marks the resolution of a long-standing legal and administrative matter, providing the former Chief Minister with a comfortable and official residence befitting his national role.
